Good!

In regard to the meaning of "prove", I think that this meaning from Longman fits the context better:

========
to show how good you are at doing something
========

I think it's a very tricky one. My dictionary (Oxford American) seems to stay with the first conclusion.

-She proves 'her skill as a businesswoman'
(demonstrates by evidence or argument that she has an ability or holds certain aspects)
transitive structure (her skill as a businesswoman is the object)
-She proves herself to be a businesswoman.
(demonstrate your abilities or courage)
sort of pivot structure (the object of the first part of the sentence is the subject of the second part)

Okay the technical explanation is hard, let's transform the sentence:
"She proves her mother's skill as a businesswoman."
It's the same structure, so the meaning of prove shouldn't change.

So I guess we can conclude that we have two meanings:
-To prove (show with evidence)
-To prove oneself (demonstrate your abilities)

They both almost mean the same, if you know one explanation I'm sure you will understand both of the meanings. :)

Thanks! I intended to comment on what was in the 5/27 entry:

============
Prove
Context: she proved her skill as a businesswoman when she signed a deal with a value of
$60 million with the big entertainment company Time Warner.
Definition:to use facts ,evidence,etc. to show that sth is true
Example :They hope this new evidence will prove her innocence.
Just give me a chance and I'll prove it to you.
============

In this case, I think she "proved" it by demonstrating or showing it. "Using facts and evidence" sounds more to me like a logical proof but in this case I think it is less about logic and more about demonstration.

Tomomi: If this is not helping you, just ignore my explanation. The important thing is that you feel that you have understood the meaning of the sentence.
